The first month of the year is a great time to look forward on what’s about to come. Let’s look ahead and see what types of web design trends we can look for this 2014.
Appealing Fonts
Web_fontsStandard serif and san-serif fonts will not be the spotlight anymore (but they are here to stay). Designers are now not afraid to use fonts with personality. This adjustment can bring uniqueness to their designs.
More Mobile Focus
Responsive design is becoming a standard. The next step is to deconstruct the actual mobile experience. Web designers are trying to keep up with the mobile boom, making their websites functioning on mobile devices. Good thing developers are taking one step ahead by integrating with social media, email subscription, long scrolling sites and fast loading sites. Making the mobile experience much better for viewers.
Flat Design
ios7It can be said that Apple will jumpstart this design style but Google and Windows have been fiddling with it for quite sometime already. With the release of iOS7 came the design aesthetic known as flat design. They removed drop shadows and gradients to bring back design to its roots. The rest of the world is following this aesthetic so we expect this trend to go beyond 2014.
More Videos
You’d rather watch something than read it, right? This new year, videos will replace text in websites. Faster Internet speeds and cheaper production cost has made this possible. Videos are an effective way to communicate when words just don’t cut it.
Simpler Color Schemes
This 2014, simpler color schemes will be used, as in one or two colors only. This is predominantly because of Microsoft’s new aesthetic, Metro, that they blown out introduced in their latest OS, Windows 8.
Simpler Content Too
They say our attention span is getting smaller and smaller. The push of bite-sized content might just affirm that. The twitter-age, where short bursts of information are preferred instead of long articles, has seeped into other aspects of the web.
Sidebar-less
A lot of sites are experimenting with dropping the sidebar since this allows a more visual impact with content and much easier responsive development. With this, the reading experience is made more fluid by reducing things that can crowd and distract your attention so you can focus on the main content.
