Our Software Developer (A.I.) Intern – Yi Lin has just participated in SUSS Analytics and Visualisation Challenge 2020! This competition is about combining data analytics and data visualization to tackle issues identified in the society. As a Year 3 Financial Informatics student at Ngee Ann Polytechnic specializing in Financial Analytics, her deep interest in analysing and visualising data led her to participate in this challenge with her teammate. Let’s hear from Yi Lin about her experience:

“My team’s chosen theme for the poster was Humans & Societies, with specific focus on Mental Health across ASEAN. From choosing the right theme to identify the current issues in society, to researching and collecting relevant data, the main challenge that we faced was in research as not all the data we required were readily available. After the data was collected, we had to identify the best way to visualise the data which is not as simple as it may seem to be. Our teacher was very helpful in providing various suggestions for us to consider. We also looked through many reliable sources before confirming our chosen design to present our recommendations. Despite facing these challenges, I felt I was better prepared due to my prior experience from participating ASEAN Data Science Explorers 2020, and exposure to data visualisation and data analytics modules in my course of study. Overall, I realised that mental health has become a critical health problem that we must tackle it early.” – Yi Lin

It was certainly a very meaningful experience to learn more about different social issues and more importantly how data can be used effectively to improve our lives! We can’t wait to see how you (Yi Lin) will be utilising your knowledge and experience in data analytics to add value to our company!
